The owner of a 2016 Honda Pilot contacted the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Charlotte, NC and reported their vehicle stolen. The owner reported the vehicle stolen sometime during the night during a burglary. The owner advised the Officer that the vehicle was secured in the garage with the garage door closed the night before, however the next morning the garage door was open and the Honda was gone. The Honda was able to be taken due to the keys being in the vehicle. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda. The reporting Officer also took an additional report for an auto theft in the same neighborhood, prior to this incident.
After the Honda was entered into the national crime computer database, an Officer on the other side of Charlotte, approximately twenty miles away from the incident location, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the Honda was tracked to the parking lot of an apartment complex and was found to be backed into a parking space abandoned. The vehicle was secured and a Crime Scene Investigator with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to the scene to process the vehicle for forensic evidence. This case remains an ongoing investigation.
LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Pilot in March 2016 at Bryan Honda, Fayetteville, NC.
