The LoJack® System’s Pre-Install Program is offered by selected dealers, who choose to have all vehicles protected by LoJack installed as soon as they arrive on the lot. This protects not only the eventual owners of the vehicles but the dealership as well. In this case, a pre-install dealership in Houston, TX was the victim of fraud when a customer used fake identification and fraudulent checks to purchase a 2014 Ford Mustang and attempt to purchase a Ford Expedition. Thanks to local police, with help from LoJack, the missing Mustang was recovered the same day the fraud was discovered.
On April 30th, 2014, the dealership contacted Houston Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Mustang.
A short while later, officers from the Houston PD picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Ford was located in a community garage, parked and unoccupied with an illegal parking sticker. The undamaged Mustang, valued at $41,640, was retrieved and soon returned to the grateful dealership. The investigation is ongoing.
