In this case, a thief broke into a vehicle parked at its owners’ home in Van Nuys, CA, discovered the keys to the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta parked next to it, and took off in the VW. It’s a good thing that the LoJack® system had been installed in the car just seven months before. Local law enforcement, assisted by LoJack, recovered the Jetta in less than a half hour after activation.
On March 20th, 2014, the VW’s owners contacted local police to report the theft. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Jetta, which was installed at Galpin Volkswagen in North Hills, CA.
A short while later, patrol officers picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their police vehicles. The officers located the VW in the area of Sherman Way and Shoup Ave., and observed two females entering the vehicle. The suspects drove to a gas station where a traffic stop was performed and they were taken into custody. The Jetta was retrieved and soon returned to its happy owners.
