It must be a shock to awaken on a weekday morning, get ready to go to work or school, exit your home and suddenly discover that your vehicle is missing. This recently happened to the Beaumont, CA residents in this case when they discovered their Toyota Camry had been stolen from their driveway. Thanks to the LoJack® system that was installed when the vehicle was purchased, local law enforcement took less than a half hour after activation to recover it.
On February 18th, 2014, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Beaumont Police Department to report their vehicle stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Camry, which was installed at Colonial Honda in Glendale, CA.
Minutes later, a California Highway Patrol officer picked up the homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. CHP Investigative Services Unit was requested to assist. The Toyota was located being driven in Colton. With the assistance of Colton PD units, a vehicle stop was conducted and a male suspect was taken into custody. The undamaged Camry was retrieved and soon returned to its very happy owner.
