- recovery stories
This case involves a Lincoln Navigator impounded by police in California when its operator is arrested. A few days later, the SUV was discovered missing from the impound garage. Thanks to the LoJack® system that was installed when the SUV was purchased, it was recovered by local police in just over a half hour after activation.
On February 24th, 2014, the Lincoln was reported stolen by the staff of the impound garage. The Nevada County, CA Sheriff’s Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the California Stolen Vehicle System as well as the NCIC national system. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Navigator.
Less than an hour later, the homing signal from the stolen SUV was picked up on a LoJack tracking computer in a Grass Valley PD cruiser. The Lincoln was located in a public lot near Walsh and Lloyd Streets in Grass Valley, where it was parked and unoccupied. The location was just a block away from the residence of the suspect who was arrested while driving the vehicle. The Navigator was retrieved and soon returned to the impound garage.
