It was just around lunchtime on a recent Friday when the Brooklyn, NY resident in this case discovered his Ford E-250 was missing from where he parked it, in front of his home. The LoJack® system installed in his van saved the day, helping local police recover his vehicle in just a few hours, so his weekend wasn’t ruined.
On February 7th, 2014, the Ford’s owner contacted the NYPD 69th Precinct to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the information into the NYPD stolen auto computer and the NCIC national computer. The LoJack transponder concealed in the E-250, which was installed at Lou’s Auto Sales in Brooklyn, NY, was then automatically activated.
A short while later, officers from the Queens North Auto Larceny Unit picked up the homing signal from the stolen van on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers located the Ford in a residential area, where it was parked and unoccupied. After a brief surveillance, the E-250 was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owner.
