The New Orleans, LA resident in this case arrived home after being away for a couple of days and discovered that her Chevrolet Malibu was missing from her driveway. Thanks to the LoJack® system that was installed when the car was purchased, the Malibu was recovered that same day, along with several other recently stolen cars and parts.
On November 17th, 2013, the Chevy’s owner contacted the New Orleans Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Malibu, which was installed at Mundy Chevrolet in Houston, TX.
Later that day, New Orleans PD officers picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Chevy was found in a local storage and land fill yard, along with four other vehicles that had been reported stolen from the same area in the past three days, and engines from previous thefts as well. An arrest warrant was issued for the operator of the business. The Malibu was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owner.
