Leaving your vehicle unlocked with a set of keys in the console is never a good idea, no matter where you park your car. The Metairie, LA resident in this case found this out the hard way when she discovered her Nissan Pathfinder missing from her apartment complex lot on a recent Sunday morning. Thanks to the LoJack® system she had installed when purchasing her SUV, local law enforcement recovered it that same day and took the thief into custody.
On November 17th, 2013, the Nissan’s owner contacted the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office to report the incident. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Pathfinder, which was installed at Eric Hill Nissan in New Orleans, LA.
Several hours later, a trooper from the Louisiana State Police picked up the homing signals from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Nissan was located traveling along a city street, and, after following it onto I-10, a traffic stop was performed and the driver, who was wanted on several felony warrants, was taken into custody. The Pathfinder was soon returned to its very relieved owner.
