Friday the 13th turned out to be both a good day and a bad day for the Florida residents in this case. It was bad because their 2009 Toyota Camry was discovered missing from their driveway when they woke up that morning. The good part happened because they were smart enough to have the LoJack® system installed when they purchased their vehicle. Local law enforcement, with the help of LoJack, was able to retrieve the Camry in less than an hour after activation.
On December 13th, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Miami-Dade Police Department to report their vehicle stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the sedan, which was installed at Headquarter Toyota in Miami, FL.
A very short time later, a Miami-Dade PD officer picked up the homing signal from the stolen Camry on the LoJack tracking computer installed in the patrol vehicle. The officer, along with backup, located the Toyota parked and abandoned near N.W. 176th Street and 75th Place. The Camry was recovered and soon returned to its relieved owner.
