When the owner of a Chrysler Sebring in West Palm Beach, FL, unlocked his vehicle to let his grandson retrieve his book bag, he had no idea that the spare key he kept in the glove box would be removed as well. The next morning, both convertible and grandson were missing. Thanks to the LoJack® system that was installed when the Sebring was purchased, local law enforcement located the car in less than a half hour after activation.
On November 27th, 2013, the Chrysler’s owner contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to report his car stolen after trying to reach his grandson with no success. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Sebring, which was installed at Palm Beach Chrysler/Jeep in West Palm Beach, FL.
Within minutes of activation, a Palm Beach Gardens PD officer picked up the homing signal from the stolen convertible on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer located the Chrysler, parked and abandoned in an office lot. The undamaged Sebring was recovered and soon returned to a very grateful grandpa.
