In the very early morning hours one Friday, the owner of a Honda CBR1000 motorcycle returned home after being gone for 24 hours and discovered the bike was missing from his apartment complex lot. The LoJack® system he had installed when purchasing his bike helped local police locate it, even though it was hidden inside a private garage.
On September 27th, 2013, the Honda’s owner contacted the Raleigh Police Department to report that their motorcycle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure, which automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the CBR1000, which was installed at Munro Motorsports in Raleigh, NC.
A short while later, deputies from the Wake County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Raleigh PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They tracked the Honda to a private home in Raleigh, and found the bike in an attached garage. A suspect was arrested on site, and the CBR1000 was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owner, who told police that this was the second time the motorcycle had been stolen and recovered using LoJack.
