In this case, the owners of a Lincoln Navigator in West Jordan, UT, had seen their SUV earlier that morning, parked where they had left it the previous evening, so they were pretty shocked when, just before 9 a.m., they noticed the vehicle was no longer there. The LoJack® system that was installed when the Lincoln was purchased demonstrated its value by helping local law enforcement recover the machine in just over an hour after activation.
On December 19th, 2013, the Lincoln’s owners discovered it was stolen and immediately contacted the West Jordan Police Department. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle into the State and National Stolen Vehicle File. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Navigator, which was installed at Lincoln Mercury of North Scottsdale, AZ.
A short while later, an officer with the Utah State Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division began picking up the homing signal from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol car. He spotted the Lincoln traveling with three occupants and requested backup. Utah Highway Patrol and West Valley City Police responded to assist. When the Lincoln was stopped, the driver attempted to evade police on foot but was soon taken into custody. The Navigator was soon returned to its relieved owners.
