On January 29, 2013, the owner of a 2010 Lexus RX450 finished his workout at his fitness club, returned to his locker, and discovered that his keys and wallet had been stolen. Upon learning that his Lexus had been stolen, the owner contacted the Manteca Police Department to report the theft.
Manteca Police verified the crime and had the vehicle information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery System, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
The next morning, offices with Delta Community College and the Stockton Police Department both began to receive the silent signal from the hidden LoJack transponder installed in the stolen Lexus. Following the directional and signal strength cues from their onboard LoJack Police Tracking Computers, the officers observed the vehicle being driven by a male suspect in one of the college parking areas. A felony stop was conducted and the driver was taken into custody without incident.
The driver was an escapee from the county jail who had outstanding warrants for auto theft and receiving stolen property. He was arrested and booked back into the San Joaquin County Jail.
The Lexus, valued at $32,000, was impounded to be processed for latent prints and was released back to the owner.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lexus RX450 at Lexus of Pleasanton in June of 2009.
