LoJack Helps Philadelphia Police Recover Stolen Honda Fit, Arrest 2 Suspects

On the afternoon of Friday, November 23, 2012, the husband of the owner of a 2010 Honda Fit was walking toward the parked vehicle in the area of 4th Street and Lehigh Avenue. The husband is in very poor health and uses a tube to assist in his breathing. An unknown male approached and removed the car keys from the husband’s hand. The victim was unable to resist due to his physical condition, and saw the unknown male enter the vehicle and drive away.  

 The vehicle owner called 911 and Philadelphia Police Radio dispatched an officer to investigate the incident. The officer arrived on location, verified the theft, and had the Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda Fit.

A short time later, officers from the Philadelphia Police Department’s 35th District picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Honda on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to the area of 5900 Norwood Street. There, the officers observed the parked and unoccupied vehicle. After further investigation, one male and one female were placed under arrest; the assigned detectives charged the two with numerous violations of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code.        

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2010 Honda Fit on March 22, 2011 at Piazza Honda of Philadelphia.
