On November 1, 2012, the owners of a 2012 Hyundai Elantra contacted the Denver Police Department to report the vehicle stolen. The owners had been alerted to the theft by LoJack Early Warning from their LoJack Vehicle Recovery System.
The police verified the theft and entered the Hyundai’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Elantra. LoJack is the only theft recovery system that is directly operated by law enforcement and this interface is seamless and instantaneous.
A short while later, officers with the Denver Police Department and the Metro Auto Theft Task Force picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Hyundai with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. The LoJack PTC provides officers with on-board information which permits them to locate the stolen vehicle quickly and with an increased margin of safety.
Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack PTCs, the officers tracked the vehicle to the area of West 6th Avenue near Federal Boulevard. The Hyundai was found unoccupied, but evidence was collected and the vehicle secured for a safe return to the owner. The vehicle was valued at approximately $13,400.
The LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Hyundai Elantra in June of 2011at Arapahoe Hyundai in Centennial, Colorado.
