Stolen Dodge Pickup Tracked to Vacant Field, Recovered by San Antonio Police Using LoJack

On July 6, 2012, the owner of a 2005 Dodge pickup truck contacted the Austin Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from an apartment complex in Austin. Austin officers verified the theft and entered the Dodge’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.
 
A short while later, officers from the San Antonio Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Dodge on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the stolen pickup to a vacant field, where they found it abandoned.  The steering column had been damaged. 

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2005 Dodge pickup in October of 2005 at the South Point Dodge dealership.
