While the owner was having lunch at a restaurant in Redmond Town Center on March 26, thieves stole her 2012 Lexus GX460 SUV that she had purchased less than two weeks earlier. When the owner exited the restaurant over an hour after entering, she was unable to locate her vehicle and immediately reported the theft to the Redmond Police Department.
Redmond Police completed a stolen vehicle report and had information about the Lexus entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owner nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Approximately one hour later, an officer with the Medina Police Department received the Lexus’ silent homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol car. He quickly located the vehicle, abandoned in the 7800 block of NE 28th Street, not far from the owner’s residence. When the owner arrived at her residence, she discovered that her home had been burglarized and that the thieves had gained access through the garage by using the garage door opener in her vehicle.
The Lexus was processes for evidence and released to the owner. Suspects have been identified and arrests are pending.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lexus SUV in February of 2012, while in the dealer’s inventory.
