On February 14, 2012, a 2004 Toyota Sienna was stolen while parked at the owner’s residence in Westchester County, NY. When the owner discovered it was stolen, he immediately notified the Greenburgh Police Department of the theft. The police entered the Toyota’s information into the state and federal stolen vehicle computer database — a routine police action that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Minutes later, officers assigned to NYPD’s 43rd precinct and detectives assigned to the Bronx DA’s Auto Squad picked up the LoJack signal in their vehicles equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers. The officers tracked the signal and quickly located the stolen Toyota parked on the 1500 block of Watson Avenue, located in the confines of the Bronx’s 43rd precinct. Police conducted surveillance on the Toyota for a short period of time; when no one returned, the Toyota was impounded and eventually released to a very happy owner.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Sienna on March 30, 2004.
