On the morning of February 12, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Toyota Camry was warming up her car in her driveway and went inside her house, leaving the vehicle unattended. A few minutes later when she returned to her car, she found it missing and reported the theft to the Dallas Police Department.
After verifying the theft and completing a stolen vehicle report, the officers had the Camry’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owner nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
A short while later, Mesquite Police Officers picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Camry on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their vehicle. Following the computer’s cues, the officers tracked and located the stolen Camry traveling in the 10000 block of Ferguson Road. When officers attempted to stop this vehicle, a chase ensued. This vehicle was eventually stopped and the driver was arrested.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Camry at the owner’s request on February 9, 2007.
