When the owners of a 1998 Honda Civic discovered that their vehicle had been stolen on January 17, 2012, they immediately reported the theft to the San Diego Police Department. It was the police department’s routine entry of the Civic’s information into the nationwide law enforcement stolen vehicle computer system that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.
Less than two hours later, San Diego Police ground and air units began to receive the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Civic on their LoJack Police Tracking Computers in their patrol vehicles. Following the computer’s cues, the officers located the abandoned Civic minutes later in the 2400 block of Albatros Street.
This Honda Civic had been equipped with LoJack 13 years ago in California. The current owner was happy that his Civic had LoJack and even happier when the police called him to pick up his Civic, undamaged and able to be driven home.
