During the early evening hours of January 7, 2012, the owner of a 1999 Pontiac Firebird reported the vehicle stolen to the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Salt Lake Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Firebird’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Firebird and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.

Within minutes, officers with the Salt Lake City Police began picking up the silent signal from the stolen Firebird on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol cars. Following the computer cues, the the officers located the abandoned vehicle. They set up surveillance in an attempt to locate a suspect(s); after a while, when no one returned to the vehicle, the officers recovered the Firebird and later released it to the grateful owner.

Thanks to LoJack and the quick work of the Salt Lake City Police Department, the Firebird was tracked and located only 65 minutes after the theft was entered into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Pontiac Firebird by the original owners more than 11 years ago in Southern California.
